BLASST [First Place, constructed September 2017]
A curious contrast; a striking seduction; a bottom’s blank canvas.
This project aims to turn the process of making into a shared ritual, one in which the physical result is not fully realized until the act of construction is underway.
We are interested in strengthening the citizens’ capacity to value and celebrate participatory design.
We cannot predict how this bench will be used, but we can predict how it may be constructed. There are unlimited sizes, shapes and preferences of the streetscape. BLASST is made for the streetscape, by the streetscape.
BLASST is a benched formed by the cross-collaboration of builders, citizen booties, and closed-cell expanding foam - creating a frothy gold nugget for the public to rest upon.
